Abyssal Zone

In Abyssal Zone, I challenge rules of beauty in fashion photography and imposed on people by the male gaze. I do this by distorting the human form by dragging flesh with acrylic, portraying feelings of entrapment.
The overall idea behind my work has a lot to do with pressure humans feel to present themselves in a desirable way, and the way this performance is perceived by others. Abyssal zone is one of the deeper layers of the ocean where oxygen can no longer be produced and the pressure is so intense many organisms can not live. This concept ties with the project in several ways such as the suffocation of this pressure.
Exhibited as part of Elysian Exhibition in Brown Street April-May 2024. Seen as large-scale prints behind glass.
